I ve come to the conclusion that if you are a lefty/mainstream media person then you are achingly negative about everything in life - not merely wingeing, full scale Half empty negativity on every possible topic at all times , in fact they want everything to go Pete tong just so they can say I told you so and be even more miserable! I genuinely believe centrists and those on the right are much more positive and are Better equipped to roll with the flow when the chips are down - nothing BoJo says or does will ever make a lefty happy or meet their approval - I also think it is the lefty’s that are determined to keep hiding from CV and for the economy to be destroyed - I can only presume the guardian BBC etc hypnotise them

Ian Collins on Talk Radio is talking about this lefty negativity. Miserable media thinking they know better than experts. He referred to Beth Rigby as Death Rigby, with her air of doom, like something out of the Adams Family.

Bravo to Boris and Raab for standing up to China and offering HK BNO-eligible people U.K. residency.
Although we need to think through very carefully about how we integrate up to 3m new immigrants, especially if the country is in a severe post-COVID recession with high levels of unemployment.

Also, many of these immigrants will be hard working and highly capable, putting pressure on sectors that are already over-subscribed.

Not that I'm complaining - East Asians are amongst the most employable and enterprising people on earth and should be a net boon to the UK. But it won't be a simple matter...

The Left have got their bowels in an uproar because BoJo - if he gets Brexit right and Covid 19 doesn't kick him in the economic balls - is liable to be a two term prime minister. Which will have left Labour in the wilderness for 20 odd years, and the UK's political landscape permanently changed.

Expect BoJo to become as much of a hate figure as Maggie - and for the same reasons. He's got every chance of putting the glorious United Socialist Kingdom out of reach for a generation; if not more.

Someone suggested on the radio something along the lines of we build a Freeport and a small city around it to make them feel at home

:-D

We won't get all three million. I'd guess at one million here, one million to Taiwan and one million unwilling to uproot.

But BoJo and Raab may well turn Hong Kong into an economic liability for China in the near future. No good having an entrepreneurial ethos in HK if all the entrepreneurs have hit the exit button.

Which is China's challenge - how to avoid throwing out the economic baby with the political bathwater.

Scratches head - which come to think of it, potentially gives Boris some rather useful leverage with Beijing....

And if you factor in the "Tony Blair was just a Red Tory" bollocks, that means there won't be a hope of a "proper" Labour government for 45 years, which will be half a century if Boris wins the next General Election.

China (PRC) wants to take Taiwan (ROC) under the communist boot. Meanwhile we have to try and be clear about the difference in origin of goods from China as it can be confusing, especially if the origin simply states "China", when they are two very different countries. One commentator today suggested the demise of HK would be over a period of years rather than weeks or months.

Liverpool does have a large china town, the oldest Chinese community in Europe, lots of chinese students and it is a port of some size.

The left have just lost their best chance of a shot at power for a generation. If they could have forced May to abandon Brexit while still in power - as they were clearly trying to do - they would have then forced a GE with every chance of winning it.

Instead they got BoJo - who took a battering ram to the red wall, is cracking on with Brexit - and raising two fingers to Brussels into the bargain.

The weeping and wailing and gnashing of teeth among the Islington luvvies must be epic....

HK is big by our standards but Xi is more interested in strategy and domination than money making outliers it seems.

FDR spent about 5% of the American GDP on the new deal. Translated into our situation this would be about £175B. The Blond Blimp's £5B of "Build, Build, Build" is laughable in comparison.
Didn’t he already allocate over 100 billion on new infrastructure projects in the budget?

He seems to be a bit pushy, and there's beginnings of a pushback, First Australia, now the UK. Sprinkle on top a general "screw you China" feeling over CV19 which they foisted on us to save face, and the Human Rights lot yelling about the Uighurs. The Chinese really could have overplayed their hand.
