Boris Johnson Upsets His Boss

How very naughty of him to speak the truth anyone with half a brain can see:

Mr Johnson told the Med 2 conference: "There are not enough big characters, big people, men or women, who are willing to reach out beyond their Sunni or Shia or whatever group to the other side and bring people together and to develop a national story again.

"That is what's lacking. And that's the tragedy," he said, adding that "visionary leadership" was needed in the region.

He went on: "That's why you've got the Saudis, Iran, everybody, moving in and puppeteering and playing proxy wars

More honesty please - it's most refreshing & hopefully will make at least some of the players realise nobody believes their lies any more.

Problem being that with our leverage of EU membership being bollixed we have to do double time to stay still on foreign policy. That's why May is visiting the GCC meeting, you can expect some bending over for the order of the pineapple as we seek to convince them, and others, that we're still relevant. They are our newsest/oldest, bestest/biggest buddies.

Get used to it.

Is BoJo looking for a sacking in order to avoid any responsibility?

Someone 'speaking the truth' is not necessarily a good thing when that someone's job is to a large extent one of diplomacy. It being rather explicit in diplomacy that you categorically do not 'say what you think' or 'tell the truth'.

The man's a buffoon.

Oh, I don't know. Cowper Coles and Stewart did it occasionally, to good effect. Whether you do so while in post is another matter. Also take into account that closed-door discussions - which lead to photo-ops where all smile - are necessarily frank where big money's concerned.

He's some kind of Teflon pseudo-national treasure thanks to his PR machine. He might be posturing for the top job if TM messes up and has to step down for whatever reason

I genuinely think he's trying to get the boot so that's he's clean if there's a debacle over the leaving.

At some point someone should finally step up and tell the Saudis where they can get off. Sadly we will have to wait until the backwards cavemen run out of oil.
