Bob Lambert Ex Met Undercover Officer

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-29743646

The Metropolitan Police is to pay £425,000 to a woman whose child was fathered by a man who she did not know was an undercover police officer.

The unprecedented payment comes after a legal battle with women who say they were duped into relationships with officers who were spying on them.

Did the Met tell these officers to enter into relationships with these women? Or was it just a bit of after hours work fun?

Something tells me the Greenham Common Collective have just made a killing at the expense of the Taxpayer.

If Lambert fcuked off and didn't pay maintenance then that is down to him. Bit of a shitty thing to do particularly as he knew the woman had the kid but what has this got to do with the Metropolitan Police?

Lambert accepts he made serious mistakes so it follows that the relationship(s) were of his own making.

Mr Lambert has not responded to BBC requests for comment on the settlement - but he has previously said that wanted to apologise to women with whom he had relationships and that he had made some "serious mistakes".

"What has this got to do with the Met?"

He was working for them, infiltrating a group at the behest of his Senior Officers, who didn't manage/control his activities properly.

Did you use the "J button" before starting the thread?

Does anyone else note the irony in this situation. The undercover police were deployed to gather intelligence on people who had set themselves outside of the law, through their willingness to inflict harm on UK citizens, to inflict damage of UK infrastructure and to damage businesses.

These same outlaws are now using the law to claim compensation for events which ocurred.

I sense a strong element of hypocrisy at work here.

I quite reasonably did a search on the term 'Bob Lambert' to see if there was an existing thread.

As the officers name wasn't used in the other thread (bad drills) it never picked it up.

You can bet the SOP's have changed of late as regards shagging on undercover duty though....

What else do you expect when lawyers get involved!

Spying is a murky activity. If you were to ban undercover officers from shagging members of the groups they're spying on, it would be easy for said groups to identify them.

SOP's adjusted, is all, to consider 'collateral intrusion' and rationalise it. It's always been going on, always will be, and not just with a bunch of lesbian Hobbits, some of it's the real deal and there's some proper heroes out there.

This could only happen in the UK.

He was an undercover copper, surely they have to do whatever it takes to keep their cover? He only humped some bint FFS.

Joe Pistone, the FBI agent who went undercover as "Donnie Brasco" managed to infiltrate the Bonnano Crime Family to such an extent that they were about to make him a "made man". He must have done some outrageous shit to get in that far. Can you imagine the FBI or the American Government hailing him as any less than a brave, heroic undercover operator?

Indeed. There's a generation of 'Casual Contacts' in Northern Ireland who yearn for closure on such activity. But most aren't saying a word. Schtumm.

Actually, the SOP's have probably been reviewed and the Met (SCD10) who control all national UC activity have refused to rule out sexual acts as a possible tool of infiltration.

Quite a lot if his lectures are to be believed.......And the bloke is very, very believable with evidence to back it up

How is long term undercover work ever be possible if the UC is required to be celibate, next it will be no drinking on duty and making contemporaneous notes at the time.

Sooner or later every tactic used to catch criminals will be outed and outlawed and it will be both hands tied behind the back instead of one.

Wets.
