Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. I caught a short segment on the work of the farriers and the troopers in the Blues & Royals on Countryfile on BBC1 today. I don't know how much else they covered.

It will be on iPlayer later on.

  2. Cutting off the horses feet after they die is a bit overkill, they should just drag the bloody horse back.
  3. They carry these on parade looks quite handy. Useful as a tool to stop your arrse being felt in the unlikely event your not on that bus in the mounted HC :D

"Originally the axe had two functions - the spike on the axe was used
to humanely put severely injured horses out of their misery, and the
sharp axe blade was used to chop off the deceased horses' feet."

    Linky, scroll down to Farrier
  4. I understand it has to be feet as that is where animals regtl no is shown
