Blair set to address UN on terror

Tony Blair is due to address the UN on the need for a global effort to tackle preachers who incite terrorism.
The UN is meeting in an effort to find consensus on moves to reform the body, as well as tackling poverty.

But Mr Blair will also tackle the issue of firebrand clerics by tabling a resolution demanding governments around the world join a crackdown.

In the wake of July's London bombs, the controversy over clerics who praise terrorism has intensified.

Britain's ambassador to the UN Sir Emyr Jones Parry told the BBC he was disappointed not to have reached agreement at the World Summit on a universal definition of terrorism.

He said: "The text was not as comprehensive as I would have wished."

But he added: "What is clear is that there is an affirmation against terrorism.
