China's growing economic power must be matched by improvement in its record on human rights and democracy, UK Prime Minister Tony Blair has said.
Following three hours of talks with Chinese Premier Wen Jiabo, he said people wanted to know "what kind of country they are dealing with".
Good grief. At least get some distance between you and your hosts before you bring up their no1 sensitive subject PM?

Lets see some democracy in the UK, where a government is elected on just over one-third of the vote, where political party members were involved in electoral fraud, where the government will not relinquish prerogative powers, where Parliament is dissolved when the government decides, where an unrepresentative voting system is in use despite promises to change it etc...

Not quite China, but we could do with cleaning our own act up first. Bliar is not the person to be handing out lectures on "democracy" given his contempt for the process.

Wait and maybe 20-30 years later Chinese Leader would press for better British democracy.

Well said gentlemen. I, for one, are sick of living in a Tonyocracy Nanny State, therefore I must try harder to escape!
