Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. I have done a search on this but couldn't find anything...

Can anyone give me details on how to fit a black rim to your helmet?
I have heard it is done with NBC/CBRN over boots... is that correct?

  2. is it not just the inner tube of a tyre?

    scotty

  3. Diana Ross

  4. Used to be a chunk of Land Rover inner-tube, ISTR.

    Looked pants.

  5. Wouldn't they be a bit big for your helmet...or are you just showing off?

  6. How do you mean a bit big... ?
I was told take a strip off the top of the boot and stretch it round the rim...

  7. What for?

Are you trying to look 'well ally'?

  8. I think Biscuits meant you to keep the inner tube complete for the rim of your helmet !

  9. 4T inner tube, in water and stretch out with a weight (like your twos tie). Wack it on the helmet, and it will shrink down.

  10. Won't your missus mind?

  11. Do you have split the inner tube open first?

  12. It'll chaff your helmet if you split it first; unless you grease it first.

  13. Out of curiosity, since I'm not in the know, what is the black rim on the lid actually for ?

  14. To keep the scrim netting in place.

  15. Makes you look like a seasoned pro. Most people I know who (for some reason) do it use NBC, sorry CBRN boots...
