Just got a flyer through the post promoting the new 1089/848 bikes from Ducati.
I have to say, checking the website, the new 1098R gets my vote for "Bike porn of the year 2008".

Interested to see it on a dyno/weighing scales to see whether the Japs or the Italians are the biggest BS merchants on figures....180bhp/165kg!

My track spec 998 makes over 20hp less and weighs 20kg more (tested)..

I'm no BHP follower merchant.

Don't the Iti's measure at the crank and the Japs at the rear wheel?

With ludicrous horsepower in todays bikes its a wonder how far they go. Really, I mean; how much usable horsepower do you need on the roads?

That new Ducati moto GP V4 road bike's power is insane! It's a lovely looking bike tho. Pricey!

Ducati pee'd me off slightly with the BSB and WSB pressure to allow bigger cc machines [albeit with tight rules]to compete or they would withdraw from the competitions.

It shares the engine.
I agree with some of the comment above, although I thought it might transform into a Yamaha. It does have the same garish colourscheme. it is packed to the gills with shiny stuff though.

Love the idea of an Italian twin but worried you'll see yourself coming and going a little too often? Consider the Bimota DB7, which uses Ducati's 1098 Testastretta Evoluzione engine. The price (if you need to ask...) will likely keep this one from getting into the hands of your riding buddies, so you'll be sure to have the only one at your local hangout; and you'll be the envy of everyone else in attendance.

The chassis is a mix of tubes and machined plates, as is the swingarm. Both are beautiful to behold, as is the bodywork - made up of structural carbon fiber, eliminating the need for separate subframes front and rear. The end result is an extremely lightweight bike at just 375 pounds. Rounding out the package are fully adjustable Marzocchi Corse forks, an advanced Extreme Tech rear shock, forged alloy wheels and radially mounted Brembo brakes. This truly is a beautiful bike, and the price will surely reflect the design and engineering that went into its development. Unfortunately... we're not worthy!
Tech sheet ticks all the right boxes... :D
