Bianca Williams: Met apologises to sprinter over stop-and-search

Here's a picture of William's car at the time in question. It looks to me like a standard 220 GLA without any bells and whistles. You can also see into the car through the side windows so the 'tinted windows' defence sounds a bit unlikely...

You've got better eyes than me, mate. All I can see is the reflection of the parked car on the nearside.

Unless a pnc check was done prior to the stop which flashed that the car contained and atom bomb or something similar I have no idea why the copper has his asp drawn straight away, talk about wanting to make a situation confrontational from the off.
As I understand it they took off when the police initially tried to stop them, so the guy with his Asp drawn was either one of the people that had to chase it, or had been reacting to a failure to stop call.

I read somewhere (The Times?) that Dos Santos has said that when driving his previous car (a Nissan Juke) he was never stopped but as soon as he bought a Merc the Met started stopping him regularly.
Twas indeed in the Times
and there is a lesson for him, go back to a normal family car, also less likely to be nicked at knifepoint

Wonder why they didn't fight fire with fire, charge them with failure to stop, driving without due care and attention, resisting arrest etc

Because young black males driving high powered cars with tinted windows tend to get a bit stabby with the police
it happens so often that they prepare for the worst

Looks similar to my car, clear windie and front windows, tinted privacy glass in the back seats and rear.

Blacked out windows or not, from that position I don't see how the police could have seen who was driving it. How it was being driven yes.

I bet their hearts sank when they saw the ethnicity of the driver and the fragrant Ms Williams started shouting the odds at them.

oddly, if she had been sweetness and light, polite and non aggressive , they would have apologised and let her go on her way
And all thought what a nice young lady she is
but she didnt

Is there a list of cars that law abiding people of a darker hue are allowed to drive without regularly being stopped by the Met?

As you yourself said a few posts up they were being stopped on a regular basis which I would imagine would piss anybody off after a while. Maybe this was the time she lost it.

I was struck by what she said.
First it was ‘he didn’t do nuffink’, followed by ‘it wasn’t me. I didn’t do nuffink’.
The implication being somebody clearly did summink, and I’ll put money it wasn’t the 3-month old baby.

In the interview she did with the BBC she said this was the first time it had ever happened to her.

Perhaps previous experience gained from years of policing that area has taught him the wisdom of being prepared when performing a stop there...?

There is, of course, the fact that Mr Floorit managed to get to their house before stopping, no doubt hoping to put on a bit of a show for the neighbours.

I know a Jamaican who drives a Skoda Octavia, hes never been stopped, A cousin who drives a black cab, he gets stopped all the bloody time by people wanting to go sarf of the river, but the Police have never stopped him
and the Doctor up the road who is Black and drives a Volvo
perhaps something non aggressive, non showy, and no too expensive is the answer

Ms Williams did say in a BBC radio interview that the windows were an OE option which is fair enough. Interestingly she and her partner said he had been stopped fifteen times over the past few years (him) or about ten times (her). Seems like the sort of number you'd be in agreement on especially after the sixteenth or possibly tenth time it had happened.

A mate of mine from Nigeria kept all his docs in the glove box because he got stopped quite a lot round that there London.

His attitude was that as he favoured second hand LHD Belgian BMWs it was to be expected. He was fairly ambivalent about it and I presume went the Chris Rock route when stopped.

Is there a list for young white males
I ask because around cambridge i was never stopped in my old landie - or the ford escort - but the old Chavalier SRI feck me, I was stopped on a regular basis -

Why because it (and the old Nova) was a popular car with the local barry boys and the insurance tended to be invalid.

I also get stopped a lot in France driving an old right hooker
I never stamp my feet and accuse them of picking on me because my cars UK origin (despite knowing thats exactly why ive been stopped)

Because being rather more sensible than some i realise that lots of old UK cars are run dodgy round here and I accept that a such im more likely to be pulled over than the wife.
In being pulled over they check paper work and complain about my front plate** - I politely agree its slightly on the skew and inform them that it has passed several MOTs in its position and regrettably better positioning isnt possible.
In addition they often point out im supposed to carry my insurance docs not just cart gris or whatever other but of paper ive ommited.

At which point they send me on my way.
The presence of the CB radio (with UK mode)
The fact my plates are stuck or screwed on not riveted as per French law

Is never an issue, but they could make it if they wanted to - yet other people stopped have fines - the car searched - long delays and yell about discrimination - and are verbally abusive.

It seems to me how you handle the inconvenience has far more bearing on how it plays out than the colour of you skin or 1st language

**Slightly and not obvious until the car is stopped - you can see them puzzle it out
