    British Forces overseas to watch
Saturday’s England match on TV – for free!

BFBS Television will be broadcasting Saturday’s Ukraine v England World Cup Qualifier live to British Forces overseas thanks to a deal between BFBS; Kentaro, the rightsholder; and Perform, the digital sports media group, who are broadcasting the pay-per-view match on the internet only in the UK.

There has been a furore in the UK with England fans angry that the match will not be shown on British television, and that they have to pay up to £11.99 to watch it via the internet.

So BFBS decided to see if they could get coverage for our troops on ops and posted overseas, who would not be able to access it on the internet.

And we’re delighted that we were successful and British Forces and their families overseas in more 18 countries will watch the game live on BFBS TV for free.

“We are absolutely delighted that Perform and Kentaro, the rightsholders, have allowed us to show this match to British Forces overseas who have no other way of seeing it,” said Helen Williams, Controller of BFBS Television. “There are no more patriotic England supporters than British troops! It’s only right that those fighting for their country should be given special treatment when it comes to watching one of their national teams.”

Executive Chairman of Perform, Andrew Croker, said: “We were very conscious that British Forces on operations would not to able to access the match via the internet, but very much wanted them to be able to watch England’s final World Cup Qualifier. So joining forces with BFBS Television was the perfect solution.”

    Coverage starts on BFBS2 at 17.45 CET with kick-off at 1815 – so that’s 20.15 Afghan time, with kick-off at 20.45.

Match commentary will also be carried on BFBS Radio’s alternative service.
