BFBS Presenters

Used to wake up to Sarah Kennedy when I served in Minden 1976-80 still wake up to her now on radio 2. Tommy Vance, Alan Freeman on BFBS they were excellent.

I used to listen to Mark Paige on radio Tees I always thought he was a knob, met a couple of BFBS presenters in Belize & Gib came across as being knobs..or am I wrong.

Yep, I remember Sarah K in Germany in the 1970's... Also a bloke called Rick Lunt! Now known as Patrick Lunt, who sometimes reads the weather on Radio 2. He was once married to Jan Leeming.

If Pastuna was the bloke with the Roller, I recall him in Rheindahlen. The Roller was once owned by a senior diplomat somewhere hot, possibly Singapore. It was quite impressive!

My Auntie used to be the bus escort when Dusty Miller was on her bus in Minden. My cousin had a thing for him. Saw Dusty's daughter recently at a rugby match in paderborn. How time flies. Anyone remember Dick Norton from Berlin 1972 era? I used to be the rugby match reporter and did the rugby news from Summit House. Great days

Paul Bunker did the breakfast show about 5 years ago. A properly funny bloke, a real talent. I met him a couple of times and he was basically a Rugby lad messing about on the airwaves.

Doesn't he work for 2CR darn sarf, now? Cox and Bumphrey (spelling?) were well funny in the afternoon, till he buggered off on tour, Gib or FI i think. They should team up again. I remember James Watt from Grapple 7 days, he did the breakfast show. My god i spent my whole tour vowing to kill that annoying feck wit! The last thing you needed in the middle of 4 feet of snow was listening to that tw@ first thing in the morning!! "Watty is a DJ, he is a fecking prick"

Steve Bumfry was the top man. I remember him well from BFBS in Cyprus, back in the days of "Agrinos's" bar in Dhekelia, (along with his sidekick/bodyguard Sir Clifford Smifford).

He was also in BFBS Falklands (MPA) around late 1992, when we bribed some of the chefs with some illicit booze to dine him off the island. A night of alcoholic magnificence worthy of the great man.

I think Steve Mason who did a rave show in the first half of the 1990s and perhaps longer deserves a mention. He did some awesome mixes when much of BFBS sounded like Radio 2 from the 1970s. I aways found it strange that at a time when soldiers having rave and fractal (?) posters on the walls in the block could raise suspicions of drug usage that BFBS was broadcasting that stuff, although I always enjoyed it (the music I mean). I think Steve Mason was big in the European scene as he gets a mention in 'Hyper, Hyper' by Scooter. I wonder what became of him?

Secondly, I still miss John Peel's shows on Radio 1 and 4 and admire him for broadcasting for BFBS for so long. He was definitely taken too early.

Was it Karina who did Reiseburo Atlas?

Agrino's is still up and running. Run by an ex-Guardsman by the name of Pete. Decent pint of the black stuff.
