The BBC have produced a real luvvies list of books from the 7 decades of QE2 and ignored the likes of JK Rowling, GMF, and many others.
Here is a starter for the Arrse list of readable books, please add your favs or even non fav but good
The article asked for an alternate list so to start:
1950s
Nevil Shute novels
Winston Churchill, History of WW2, just to remind people that actually, we won that one!
1960s
Ian Fleming
James Bond or Chitty Chitty Bang Bang
1970s
Max Hastings, before he went into writing by committee and actually wrote some decent history . If Hastings sticks in the craw then Nigel Hamilton's trilogy bio of Monty (warts and all)
1980s
Lyndsey Davies - the start of the Roman historical fiction series featuring Falco and detailing life in Roman times - several writers have followed her lead.
1990s
Notes from a Small Island Bill Bryson
Delia Smith's cookbook - nearly every house had a copy!
2000s
JK Rowling - brought actual book reading back to kids (an absolute anathema to the BBC!!!!)
2010s
50 Shades of Grey E L James (one for the laydees)
2020s
How about, just to finish off "The subtle art of not giving a F*CK" by Mark Mason.
Many left out, deliberately as, this is to get you lot to produce a full list!
