TBh its mainly milItary marketplace where there’s say ...to the naked eye, cloning .. but not so much commercial.

Also Harbin industries had kinda license from then Aerospatiale to manufacture AS365N as the Z-9 ....(several variants in their PLAAF and PLAN)

Anyhpw several Bell 429 in service with customers last decade ...and China is a big customer for Bell..

What is to stop it from being reverse engineered?

Also - what is so special about an electronic news gathering helicopter, as opposed to a normal helicopter outfitted with TB cameras and related equipment? What makes the ENG outfit different from a surveillance one?

Dual use? Potentially of value in cracking down on dissent? Purchased via a front company perhaps?

Given that China is the world leader in optical recognition and AI what bits of it do they need to reverse engineer?

The bits they missed last time? Why import a news gathering helicopter given home grown industrial capabilities? I thought that a lot of broadcasting equipment as well.

It just seems a bit odd. Surely the Americans have export controls for dual use technologies?

Just like buying 'one ex Soviet aircraft carrier - slightly used' for use as a hotel.

Yep. My last job was for a battery assembly machine company. They copied the one we sold them down to the subsequent flaw that was later found. The company bit the bullet and now sends kits for assembly out there.

Have you ever seen an ENG kitted out helo? The ENG marketplace is Huge in USA...Bog Standard ENG is much like a flying a studio A heck of a lot more than just sticking a HDTV camera turret and that’s that In Uk, likes of Sky News or the Beeb utilise AS355F/N Twin Squirrels.

Anyhow a friends company did the completion for this ENg Astar for Helinet Aviation so my photos of it at Heli Expo 2018 in Vegas.
