Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. Can't be fucked to build prisons? It's alright we will just let em out early.
  2. Not quite, he just wants a two tier system similar to the yanks. It doesn't mean murdering children in cold blood will not attract a life sentance.

Also with a shade of 'grey' in the equation it gives the prosecuters somewhere to go. And we may find more scum taken off our streets, who were able to walk from the current legal definition of murder.
  3. Indeed. The intention is to make a 'discretionary' sentence chosen by a Judge for Tier-2 murders such as Manslaughter, Self-defence and Accidental murder.

Life sentences will still be appropriated against premeditated murder but, as stated above, it removes the 'You have killed, you must serve a life sentence' issues surrounding such cases as Tony Martin's incarceration in '99.
  4. I think it is a good idea, and let's face it, some people deserved murdering.
  5. It also means that once murder is confirmed, the judge's hands are no longer tied to 'Life', and they can now give the accused 18 months in an open prison if they are feeling particularly impressed by the poor soul's sob story.

Sounds like a load of old cock to me. Why doesn't he just do what every ****** wants - keep the current mandatory sentence, but double the tarrif for the serious stuff, with no early release. That way, some of these bastards will be 50 years down the road before they get out.
