BBC: "Moscow Correspondent Rupert Wingfield-Hayes charts the dramatic rise of Russian economic and military power in 2008. Has the relationship with the West changed for good?"
Is it a humoristic program or what?
Ironically global economical crisis hit Russian economy very painfully. And so called "rise of Russian economic and military power" in fact has stopped namely in 2008.
As for the relationship with the West then 'the West' is not something solid. There are no unresolvable problems with Europe (including the UK of course). As for our American friends then unlikely relations with Russia were improved in 2008 (and in previous years as well). Only God knows what will happen next year but I don't expect much.
