Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. Did anyone see last nights program on BBC2 on the late Rick Rescola.

He was a Cornishman who served with the Airborne in the sixties. Then ended up with the U.S. 1st. Cav. Airmobile Div. in 1965. He is featured in the book "We were Soldiers Once and Young." which was later made into the Mel Gibson Film. As a Lieutenant he was said to have been inspirational with his leadership in the opening ambushes in Ia Drang valley.

He in later life overcame cancer and became the security adviser for Morgan Stanley, based in one of the World Trade Towers. After the first bombing of the Towers he predicted in a report two years prior that the most effective attack on the centre would be to by ariel attack. He would regularly hold evacuation drills for the staff of Morgan Stanley. On 9/11 he managed to get most of the 2700 staff out but then went back in to try and evacuate other workers out. He was never seen again.

  3. I knew about him after reading the book by Hal Moore but didn't know he'd died on 9/11.

  4. RIP old warrior.

  5. The guy was an ex-squaddie. We all know what he really said...

Seems to have been an impressive guy, who made the final sacrifice.

    Requiescat in pace.
