Beaming Kate Silverton shows off her ring as she announces engagement to former Royal Marine
Television presenter Kate Silverton has become engaged, it was announced today.

Her fiance, former Royal Marine Mike Heron, proposed to her on one knee in the Piazza del Popolo in Rome last weekend on a surprise trip to the Italian capital.

A spokesman said the 41-year-old security expert from Hartlepool has had a Forevermark engagement ring made especially for her because he knew the BBC Breakfast presenter, 38, would want a diamond that was ethically sourced.

Is this Kate Silverton, the BBC breakfast's own action hero?

The only person on Breakfast I find more irritating is the weather presenter - Carol Kirkwood - drones like Andy Murray....

The BBC will have more than likely put Kate Silverton on as she will be marrying a Royal Marine. This approach is to try and soften the Army up and say "she's one of us", while she is really working for the government/BBC, while furthering her career prospects.

Watched this today. She mentioned that the OC of a coy she visited was a "reservist attached to the Welsh Guards, like the rest here". Does this mean the entire coy were reservists? or a reg coy had a reservist in charge?
