Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. probably hashed out somewhere else, but too pished to look for it.

    anyway, here goes:

Last year they drank about 1.7 million pints of beer and 90,000 bottles of wine. In the first six months of this year, they drank 900,000 pints of beer and 56,000 bottles of wine. " They" are the 35000 German troops stationed in Afghanistan. According to official reports, they drink toom uch, smoke too much, eat too much stodgy food and exercise little making them too fat and unfit for duty/fighting.

German soldiers are 40% overweight compared to 35% for civilians with 8.5% classed as ' seriously overweight '. Military claims this is because they spend more time filling out forms, doing emission tests on equipment and separating garbage to ' save the world' and therefore have little time for fitness regimens.

Defenders claim that the soldiers intake is only 0.77 litres of beer per day less than the 2, 500 mil cans per day allowed.

As a comparison, Canuck soldiers in the Stan are permitted 2 beers a month - though the gov't is considering a Christmas present allowing 4 beers and a shot of liquor for the festive season. WooHoo!!

Any Brit figures? Hate to think what the US Figures might be
  2. US troops in Afghanistan and Iraq are not allowed any alcohol ever.
