I was on wiki [abuse/] and I followed the natural path to this.

Force Research Unit - Wikipedia

Now... I’m no expert but the “reasonable doubt” of wiki quality starts on the 14 INT Page but it gets worse as it heads down to the FRU. Am I wrong or shouldn’t there be some counter comments about this bollocks?

Either you dabbled in that world and know what the dit is, but don’t say anything, because you dabble in that world.

Therefore take anything with a pinch of salt.

Best left, what's the problem with there being dezinformatsiya all over the place? It's not like there's ever going to be a wholly accurate Wiki page, at least one would hope not.

Don't forget that Wiki (mostly) keeps a record of all the edits to a page. Which can be instructive...

First edition

First page of the history
A quick glance at that would indicate it was started by a Republican and most of the additions to it have been by people with an interest in the extreme left wing and conspiracy theories. I am completely shocked! I did not see that coming at all!

Re the First Edition - it was the Specialist Intelligence Wing (not 'Special') and it was established in 1977 not 1982 at Repton Manor. Its purpose was to train FRU Handlers - it recruited from all three services, but was part of the Int Corps.
What was the score with SMIUs etc? I seem to remember open-source recruiting in AGAIs for that, and 'special couriers'. I think SMIUs had all been subsumed into JCU(NI) and JSG by the mid 80s?

I don't have much on the 80's but I believe the SMIU was initially based at RUC HQ Knock and was commanded by a Col. I think there were other SMIU dets located elsewhere as the conflict progressed. Certainly might make sense to bring the various Corps functions under a unified structure, but I really don't know.
