Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

Whilst not taking anything away from the original E Company, the above article suggest that they were involved at Arnhem.
I can't recall every seeing this ever mentioned anywhere, is there any grain of truth to it or is it just history rewritten to suit the story?

  2. They took part in market-garden, but in and around Eindhoven. Remember this story is from the scum, so I suppose its just enough to get names right, let alone details or facts

  3. Since when did the Sun let the truth get in the way of a story?

  4. They were at Eindhoven and assisted the withdrawal of the Airborne Div at Oosterbeek (kind of near Arnhem... and probably less recognisable than) as part of 101st.

  5. Can't expect a scum reporter to have the faintest idea about history. Thing is many use the term 'Arnhem' when refering to the whole of the Market Garden operation. The spams at Nijmegen and Eindhoven tend to get forgotten.....which isn't too unfair as some seem to think that Overlord was a purely yank affair

Reporter needs to take a shufti at a map of the Ardennes too.

Okay, there is no excuse for the latter statement, but to be fair to the journo, what Market Garden eventually boiled down to, particularly as far as Sun readers are concerned, was a battle for Arnhem. 506 PIR just happened to parachute into the battle a significantly further distance away from Arnhem than even 1 Airborne were made to.

Think of it instead as the Sun getting one over on the septics by rewriting them out of history.

    ;o)
