Ballykelly to close...

Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. Just announced on Beeb. In addition to 11 bases already selected for closure in NI.

Shackelton Ballykelly; St. Patrick's, Ballymena & St. Lucia, Omagh are to close "within 2 years".

Must say that I'm surprised. Particularly about Ballykelly & St. Pat's.

Expect fireworks on the political front.
  2. I'm surprised at them closing the home of the Depot! that said, nothing that happens in Norn Iron any more really surprises
  3. I always thought Shackleton was a sh1te hole. It is all part of the planned 'demilitarisation' so is to be expected.
  4. I've been a silent observer of the "demilitarisation" process as I do feel that it's necessary and indeed desirable. Historic as it is, after a fashion, St. Lucia is no big surprise.

St. Pat's and Ballykelly though, their closure IMHO goes somewhat beyond "normalisation".
