Badd spelinng on thee internnet

I had to laugh at this hilarious exchange in the Daily Mail between spelling Nazis and their comments about the Lego house built by James May, and its subsequent demise.

What a complete waist of time and money and for such a dull programe
- Ann, Bristol, UK, 23/9/2009 12:50

I think you mean waste - can no-one spell properly these days?
- Mrs Muppet, Wales, 23/9/2009 13:05

I think you mean 'no one' as 'no-one' isn't hyphonated.

Mr Pedantic, Solihull, 23/9/2009 13:27

I think you mean hyphenated, not hyphonated.

- Miss Properly Pendantic, Sussex, UK, 23/9/2009 13:52

Actually, Miss Properly Pendantic - it's pedantic, only 1 n. Atrocious spelling for all concerned!

- moby, Farnborough, UK, 23/9/2009 14:15

Sorry, Moby, but your dash is inappropriate (you should have used a comma), and the grammatical convention is to spell out the numbers from one to nine rather than use numerals. So I am afraid that you yourself are not quite up to top mark in punctuation and grammar.

P.s. Can I recommend to all commenters (don't bother coming back at me on this neologism) the Opera web browser which has built-in spell-checking?
- Byron, Oxford, UK, 23/9/2009 15:36
They might also have added that Ann of Bristol spelled “programme” wrongly too.

I love stuff like this! :) :) :)

spelling nazis, You got to love them

"You're wrong because you spelt ****** incorrectly" = Ad hominem

Only slightly dumber than those who insist that people who swear must have a limited vocabulary.

Damn, mixed my fallacies.

I think you'll find that it's Nazis.
And no capital Y in you either.

In fact, in order to be grammatically correct and spelt correctly,
should it not read "Spelling Nazis, you've got to love them."

Should there not be a question mark at the end of your statement? :D

It was a rhetorical statement.

No space before the question mark and should be a capital "I"! :)

GrandadsMOB
I'd also suggest a comma after the "Oh dear".

Edit because I can't spell "dear".

Second edit because I can't close tags.

Comma after the "one", as well.

Then you should have used a reversed question mark.

No comma after your "one" (Eats, shoots, and leaves?) :D

(For feck's sake, this is sad......no: I'm sad  )

That would just be silly.

Why on earth would anyone want to do that?

The thing I've never really understood about these spelling Nazis is that, even though this or that word's spelled incorrectly, it doesn't throw into doubt the whole sense of what's written. You still have a full idea of what the person's trying to say.
