AWOL

Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. According to The Portsmouth News [paper online], 23,600 Service personnel have gone AWOL [Desertion?] in the last 10 years. :(

  2. AWOL does not equal desertion. Most of those stats can be put down to petty absence i.e. couple of days at most.

  3. Just as a matter of interest, when does AWOL become Desertion?
    Is it time or intention?

  4. Legal question and, as such, has to be proved. Must be linked to intention and a deployment on operations is my understanding but I'm not a lawyer.
