Awaiting the Surveyor - simple tips

Has anyone got any simple tips for giving a positive image to a house surveyor? Will dealing with blemishes in paintwork etc really count, or will the he be more interested in structural integrity and strength (and of couse location)?

He should be looking for stuff like damp and dry rot.

A lick of paint's not going to do that any good.
