I know there are some aviation trades in RLC but are any of these open to reserves?

What are the RLC aviation trades you know about? As far as I am aware, there is only Driver, Air Dispatcher. That is a Regular role only (47 Air Dispatch).

I'm wondering if there is any use for HHI.

Ah, HHI, I did my course in Sennelager back in the year dot.
At one point, I was tasked with grounding the hook under a Super Puma.
The Loadie leaned out and talked the Pilot down lower and lower, until I was crouched on the ground with the heli balanced on my head.

There has been a TA air despatch squadron. It was headquartered somewhere in the South-West near Lyneham - possibly Cirencester. It disappeared following a defence review sometime this century. There was once a thread about it on here.

HHI isn’t a trade - it‘s a specialist qualification that pretty much any trade can apply for. It used to be a two week course at BZZ (JATE). I’m well out of date, but pretty much the only requirements were that the applicant had to be an SNCO or officer. Plenty of TA folk did the course, as if they couldn’t make Annual Camp, they needed a 2-week course to qualify for bounty, and this was one avenue.

@shiny_arrse - Crabs never had Super Puma :)

My bad, in my defence it was a long time (and a significant quantity of alcohol) ago.

Any further info?
Just says they will re-role, losing two squadrons to other regiments and gaining two from elsewhere. Becomes 158 Aviation Support Regiment.

47 AD had a TA/Reserve troop as part of the regular sqn at Brize. @Sexton Blake may be able to advise.

Edit. It appears for not much longer though as they are being re-roled to movers under the 2020 Defence review according to wiki.

395 Air Despatch Troop RLC.

South Cerney, I thunk.

395 Troop (TA Air Despatch as was) were co-located with the regular Sqn at RAF Lyneham.

I think 395 were disbanded just after the Hercules fleet (and with it 47 AD) moved to RAF BZN.

The ‘connection’ with South Cerney was mainly due to the AD gang belonging to 29 Regt RLC before they became part of 16X (13 Regt RLC) up in sunny Colchester.

For the OP - I don’t think there are any AD opportunities for Reserves but try your local ACIO or whatever they might be called now to get the latest gen.
