I have just seen the design of the new Australian Defense (Volunteer) medal , and can only say I am envious of all the OZ guys who qualify for this medal. Good on the OZ government for striking such a rewarding OFFICIAL medal.

After 12 years service as a British serviceman all I can do in the UK is buy this commemorative Volunteer medal.

Its not a tin medal, in fact its exellent quality in sterling silver, but its still an unofficial medal and is not allowed to be worn even under official medals, by servicemen an veterans alike.

What do readers think should HMG strike an OFFICIAL Volunteer medal for British servicemen who have served for more than 6 years?

Because they'll make it 10 years + , u must have had uninterrupted TAEC and other jumps and hoops

Do you mean the OZ medal?

They have already set the qualifing period as six years for the OZ medal.

In the British services you have to wait 18 years army and 15 years navy to get FSGC medal. And even then its more to do with good conduct than long service, if you been a naughty boy, bang goes your medal.
