  1. Hi All,

I'm currently a 2Lt in the TA but am joining RMAS in September and looking to go RAC. I'm really keen to get an attachment over the summer (July and August) to give me a flavour as life a regular Troop leader and gain a bit more experience before going off to the dark place... again!

I was wondering if anyone had any info or suggestions, or if anyone here is an OC or CO in need of an extra set of hands for a couple of months... perhaps as part of a rear party whilst the bulk of the Regiment are out on ops.

I have spoken to my Adj who is keen to allow it, but is too busy to deal with it himself.

Any suggestions / offers would be greatly appreciated.

  2. Just a thought but have you looked at trying to get out to BATUS on an Ex (if there's one at the right time)? Lots of Armour stuff usually. I suspect that a few weeks on a rear party would put you off joining the Army for ever.

    Good luck though!
  3. Where are you based? Is you adjt going to pay you in MTDs for the duration of the attachment or do you expect the Regular unit to pick up the bill?
  4. 7 Brigade is doing BATUS this summer - try Adjt of Scots DG, or if you really must, 9/12 L.
  5. Currently based in Swansea with HQ being in Maindy, Cardiff (I am just finishing up at uni).

As for the bill, knowing the state they are in financially, I think its is very unlikely my unit will want to foot the bill. Having said that, I am not necessarily looking for MTDs, just something to keep me occupied over the summer with a chance to keep active/fit (the problem I have found with 9-5 office jobs during the holidays is they always make the gym the last place you want to go once you've gone through the hassle of getting home in rush hour etc).

Hobo-Ken, thanks for the suggestion. I will look into it.
  6. Cheers broken-man!

Don't be put off about the 9/12 Lancers. They really are a cracking bunch of chaps.
  8. haha don't worry, I am not put off by them at all. I had a letter from their secretary in fact enquiring about a potential PO visit. When I replied, however, I heard nothing back.

This was off the back of a RAC visit down at Bovington this Feb...
  9. Can't speak with any great authority about armoured attachments, usually such visits(i.e. more than just a fam visit) are only put on by regiments sponsoring you to RMAS. Have you got a sponsor yet?
  10. ...for a buch of Fractions ;)
  11. Try the QDG at Cwrt-y-Gollen on 01873 813767.
  12. We share barracks with the HHQ QDG. I have had quite a lot of contact with them and RDG (although not yet gotten a chance to go out and see the whole regt.) and it looks like they are going to be my 2 choices at sandhurst if I'm honest.

However, I would of course consider any form of experience / attachment.

I am just waiting to hear back from officer recruiting RAC to get his advice (he being RDG too - I understand they are on ops and only have a rear party at the mo left in York).

and more to the point, if anyone can actually find the buggers!
  14. Being Light Cavalry they've probably floated off ;)
  15. [My bold] Now there's a surprise. The 9/12 L seem to specialise in treating anyone who writes to them expressing an interest with either indifference or contempt. You seem to have gotten the indifference G_F, whereas I got the contempt*. I have to wonder sometimes how anyone actually manages to join them.

On the other hand, the SCOTS DG are a good lot.

*I was, in my innocence, looking for their support in seeking an age waiver for re-admission to the RMAS
