To be honest thats like saying how long is a piece of string. All depends how much money your wanting to spend you can buy a cheap one wit out a blader for say 60 quid then buy a 50 quid cammel bac or Get say a web tex one with a blader for 70 quid just depends on money and what your goin to use for and in what conditions.

If you're going to buy one I'd recommend the issue one, so it can be exchanged if it starts getting a bit "beat-up". But don't forget, PLCE is very good, and if you really need a vest you'll get issued one.

You must get the good issue ones. The ones i've had the mag pouches dont fit SA-80 mags there made for old m16 mags I think def not big enough for Sa-80 mags

I'm not being silly, but don't m-16s and A2s use NATO standard ammunition? Why would the magazines be a different size? The only old style m-16 mag I can think of is the old 60's era one, but why would the MOD base our mag pouches on them?
Sounds a bit silly 2 me, unless you mean the weird Blank mags....

Because we used to use M16 mags before the SA80 ones came out. Then when the SA80 A2 was introduced the new HK mags were bigger. The PLCE Ammo pouches were extended to fit them in as, yes, they are longer.

No sh1t! You need to get some PLCE Ammo Pouches tailored on, the issue ones are too floppy, especially when they're worn a bit.

I think that the problem here, is some members that are serving have only ever used the A2 (Not that I have, when I was in the A1 wes new!)

For the younger members, The Sa80 A1 had issue magazines and you could also use the M16 / Colt magazine in them, people tended to use the colt mag as much as possible as it was made better then the issue mag, and less prone to breaking / jamming.

The A2 magazine is larger, and thus won't fir a lot of Battlevests and ChestRigs available on the market.

As for Battlevests, If you are going to be using the Battlevest in the OTC, TA or Regs then you need a version that will take the A2 Magazine.

If you are in cadets and will be joining up sometime in the future, again go for the A2 version.

If you are in cadets and won't be joining, then the older A1 version will be fine, as the Cadet Weapon uses the A1 magazine, or for that matter the Colt / M16 mag as well.

Please people DON'T BUY WEBTEX, its poorly made, and will fall to bits, the pouches fall off, and its NOT IRR. Also if you want a vest that has good strong ammo pouches then also don't purchase the Highlander version.

Vests are made in Codura that has a Denier rating, or thickness. Highlander use 600 Denier, Webtex, and most of the others use 1000 Denier, and the issue PLCE is around the 1500 Denier mark.

If you are going to purchase a vest, ask what material it is made out of?

Best regards

You'd notice if you pick them up. The A1 mags are very plasticy while the A2 mags are that significant big thicker (and chunkier feeling for that as well excellent stuff i say)

Of note does anyone know why the hell they put the crap koch clips on assault vests when the PLCE clips are just so much better in every respect and dont need two hands to do up quickly? and does anyone make a decent assault vest that DOES use these decent clips? or something similarly decent?
