Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. I've been trying to buy a bottle of Asbach for my brothers birthday. We both drank it in Germany and although it is not the best in the world I thought it would make a nice nostalgia trip for him.

Can I find it? Can I hell! Can get it on line but the delivery charges are a joke. I went into a local specialist shop yesterday and was gob smacked when the woman said "We are always being asked for that at this time of the year but we don't stock it as there is no call for it". I'm still trying to work that one out. :?
  2. ebay, item no. 270048206816
  3. Try larger stores of Tescos, Asda or Sainsburys. I think I saw it in my local Tesco. I pickerd a couple of bottles up in Berlin last month!

One evening about 1979 I strolled out of the Infanteriekaserne (Allanbrooke Barracks, Paderborn) over the road and into the local, Zum Braumeister, which was actually closer to my bed than the NAAFI bar.

It was a very quiet evening. So quiet that the landlady disappeared out the back and returned with a bottle of Asbach Privat, a limited edition (1500 bottles IIRC) of Asbach Uralt.

A very cheap night, but I have to say that brandy, however good, is wasted on a philistine like me.
  5. Old Bloke, check your PM's
  6. Booker cash & carry.
    £13-71 0.7ltr

  7. Got a local Bookers so will give them a ring. Cheers for that.
  8. Consider yourself promoted Grumpy. Now all I have to do is borrow a card from somewhere. Think my daughter will be able to get hold of one. Thanks for the advice everyone. Made my day.

Update. Got one. Bloke from a local pub was going to Bookers and got one for me. Better not charge me by the nip when I get it later or the boys will be round. Cheers again everyone.
