I re-read your post as I was looking at an article on Focus Stacking and understand what you were talking about now. I am looking at a Nikon D850 which has this feature, just have to talk nice to the wife now.

The smaller the aperture or higher F stop number, the longer or deeper the depth of field, hence unless you resort to post digital processing, it is long shutter speeds and a closed down lens. So a tripod is a very useful tool to have when shooting macro.
You can get some pretty powerful strobes for less than a hundred quid now so they can help.

OK. I have a half decent camera.
But I don't understand anything about exposure (other than you die from it or get arrested) and an aperture is something opposite to an Overture

Thanks @mufftickler. I understand the principles, started in the 60's black and white. Have a couple of solid tripods. I travel as light as I can (if you can call a 200/400mm F4, a light lens) so no tripod has become the norm, as they get caught up in brush and tree branches, also have to be stripped down and cleaned when they get wet in a bog. You learn to get good at hand held even with a 600mm or give up. I doubt I will get in to studio work, I like talking to the trees, birds and my dog to much.

I'd like you to meet Gordon, Gordon is a grass cutting specialist,
he's a very keen worker, lives on the job, never needs a pay rise,
works to exacting standards, and, works long hours,
he never goes on the piss or gets rat arsed, and puts himself to bed at night.
But, he doesn't work in wet weather, goes and has something to eat when he wants,
Meet Gordon,

Ah I knew you would get an EV sooner or later.

Worked out why some of the shots were coming out blurred when using the viewfinder, it's got a separate focus point setup.........................duhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Just need to solve the problem of a blind bugger using the viewfinder now
