It's that time of year again. I don't have the technical ability, but there are significantly good photographers on this thread; has anyone had success with pictures of meteors / meteorites in the Perseid shower?
I've caught a meteor by accident doing some night photography.
It's not difficult to do.
You need a tripod, you need a dark sky area free of the moon (it's like a massive light that will spoil your shot), you need to focus to infinity, high iso, wide aperture (f/2. 8 if you can), and then just take lots of 20-ish second exposures and hope an asteroid travel in the frame while the shutter is open.
There'll be lots of youtubes that explain how to do it better than me.
The technical side is easy, composing the shot will be more difficult; you don't just want a shot of stars, a bit of a silhouette of something like a tree, or mountain would be nice.
