Wor Lass had an ultra marathon cancelled by the council, due to covid; a small ultra, on-line registration, with a starting window to enable a staggered start and social distancing; more like a lonely fell race than the London marathon. Nothing indoors, all outdoors. Yet pubs are open. Makes no sense to me.

So she decided to run it today by herself. I was transport and halfway point aid station (refill her water bottles/give her a pasty).

It's 32 miles from Penarth to Ogmore-on-Sea following the South Wales coastal path; quite a pretty route, even if it does take you through Barry Island.

The end at Ogmore:

Saw this at the 18 mile point. I can't remember the name of the place so can't google what it is:

I do like the Crusader cooker; spot on for coffee and noodles (for me):

Which bridge? The Severn Bridge?

I live in Sedbury, which is in England and we don't have to cross either of the Severn bridges to get into Wales.

We're about 500 meters away from the Welsh border; it's been a bit of a pain to be honest with different rules here, and then different rules just 500 meters away.

Yes I knowm my mate Danny lives just up the road from you, remember the house with the awful swimming pool ?
you should call in and see him, he did his training just down the road at the old barracks

One of the guys who works for me is doing a socially-distanced club Iron Man this weekend (I think it was today) The one they were down for was cancelled so they are doing their own. Staggered starts with a safety boat on the swim, but for most of the rest of it they won't see anyone except the people manning the various stations. For me, that shows a particular strength of character and dedication. A whole Iron Man, on your tod. I am impressed!

Love the use of chopsticks in the field btw.

'They' say Ironmen are known loners. I think extreme ultra runners (100 mile plus) are too.

Currently got a mate who ran the Offa's Dyke in the same race as Wor Lass, last year. He didn't finish, so he's having another crack at it with his missis supporting him.

He's basically running/tabbing from south to north Wales; 185 miles plus any wrong turns; he's about halfway there now (he started Thursday evening).

He needs to get in under 90 hours, which was the cut-off time for the race.

I've another friend (she's the vet; I've posted pics of her five rescue dogs here (she's now got seven)) just about to finish the South Wales Traverse; it's a 79 mile thing through the Brecon Beacons; lots of big climbs/technical terrain.

Looks like she's going to break the British female record too.

She's a fell runner and was one of the UK's top female fell runners in her day. Like a lot of runners when they get older, they go 'longer'.

I wish she'd hurry up and get to Llanthony though; I want to go to bed.

I doubt it’s changed.

I will have you know that since 1957 they have torn down the Opera House and built a Casino, torn down the SeaFront concert hall and replaced it with flat piece of unused concrete and torn down the old Army barracks and replaced it with a White Elephant indoor Aqua Park running at a deficit of 4 Million quid.

So things are looking up.
