I've been meaning to do a bit of the Hornby Rd, a track running from Slaidford through the trough of Bowland to Hornby. It's an official route called the Witches 400, 51 miles from Barrowford to Lancaster.
Without doubt, the worst walk I've ever done. The track is tough walking due to the rounded stone surface, bar 500m section.
Looking back at Pendle Hill.
The good bit of track
Way point marker. There are memorials to crashed WW2 Aircraft, but I didn't see them.
About a third of the way, after the gate and fence line, there is a path to the left, heading down to the brook, which i took to loop Back, or you could go to Dunsop Bridge (official centre point of GB)
It's about 2.5 miles of path, through some tall ferns, but with marker posts.
Spot of lunch and then up this climb, you can make out the track.
The climb was Easy, but the bogs were ridiculous. Always needing to deviate. Twice in, up to the knee! Once on the track, to rejoin my start point, this was a leg breaker with serious fissures if not careful.
