Obourg Belgium, the old railway station once stood here, and from here the Middlesex Regiment gave good account of themselves and made a mess of the Kaisers army, until they were overwhelmed, one soldier staying on the roof to cover his friends retreat, I have wanted to visit for many years, but its not easy to find, we found the station ( still working) but you need to cross the footbridge then drop down by the old railway tracks to locate it, worth the visit
The memorial stand where the old station building once stood, the brass panel was mounted on the front of that building
the canal has been widened considerably ,but its worth seeing out an old picture to see how it once looked, the old building in the distance is the lock keepers house

Plum Porter is superb on cask. Never had out of bottle.
Was pretty good out of the bottle, of the three that was my favourite, Black Wych second. Old Thumper was OK but a bit dry for my liking.

Old Thumper was one of my absolute favourites but it has gone downhill, and reduced ABV, since Marston's took it over. The quality of the beer in my local Ringwood pub ("The Porterhouse" in Westbourne) seems to have declined since the takeover as well.

I don’t bother with their beer anymore. They used to be ok, now mediocre at best.

No visit to the Somme is complete without a meal at the Old Blighty tea rooms
Alison and John showed us the latest addition to the security system, these fierce hounds and a killer cat
yse they look tame enough, but that little black fella fixes you with his eye and thats it !!
also worth visiting for the museum, john showed us his latest find, its a rifle mounted wire cutter , by all accounts a bit of a hindrance as the wire jammed in them and made the user a bullet magnet
a stunning bit of history
The Grub was as usual fantastic, just a short walk from the Lochnager crater as well
