That PO gunner looks one hard fecker ( whats the writing under branch badge) presuming it's an old gunner badge and not a swinger.

I think I met his 'descendent' during my time..."kiwi"..of field gun fame also.
Actually a killick, also a boxer. Badge is gunlayer 1st class.

Lovely walk today out on the Kiwi trail between Bulford and Tidworth. Stunning weather.

Rates and Specialist Qualifications were not always necessarily in step then. The rules about having to gain one to get the other changed a few times during my time. This particular chap could certainly have carried out the duties of PO although he did rather lack subtlety. Rather better than the chap I had as FX PO in fact.

Tornado farewell flypast at RAF Honington. They only did one pass fairly high up so image opportunities where a bit slim.

Superb phot. Mrs RangdoOfArg and I was watching this on the telly and wondered about the ordnance carried. What it is it? Is is dummy (ballast) and what is the significance? Mrs RangdoOfArg, being a former Air Cadet, needs to know. If this is elsewhere, please redirect.
As you can imagine, the winter evenings just whizz by here on planet Arg...

As a former spacey myself I'd have to hazard a guess that the inboard pair are nothing more exciting than extra fuel. The outboard pair I've no idea - AAM countermeasures dispensers, perhaps?

The inboard wing tanks are just fuel with ASRAAM acquisition rounds just visible on the pylons above; the outboard stores are Terma infra-red countermeasure pods.

In addition, the outer 2 aircraft each have a Litening III targeting pod under one of the fuselage ‘shoulder’ stations.

When we checked in the nice lady in reception asked if we’d like a room with a view of St Paul’s. Yes please we replied. I don’t think she’s been up here for a while...
What are you moaning about, look to the left of the tower and there's St Paul's lurking around the corner.
