ARRSE Tenth Anniversary - the Geekiness

Discussion in 'ARRSE: Site Issues' started by Bad CO, Dec 27, 2011.

Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

To follow on from the thread about the LOWs of the last 10 years I thought I'd start one on the highs. It then became apparent that many of the ones I'm particularly proud of are actually Geeky achievements which may only be of limited interest!

    • Getting the thing to actually work in the first place!
    • ARRSEpedia - IMHO, still one of our finest creations.
    • Migrating between different forum systems (Some MS rubbish > YaBB > phpnuke > CPGNuke/DragonflyCMS > vBulletin) without losing any data
    • Using the CMS on vBulletin to create equipment & book reviews
    • Getting OTRS to work .... don't worry if you have no idea of what this!

Well it's not particularly geeky but the useful loveliness of Spam O Matic is a major improvement :)

Um, the offer of space on Arrse (around 2006/7?) servers to post content using a basic WYSIWYG editor was a good move although little used.
  4. How the hell did you manage to get that done with no losses? That's what I'd like to know! :p
  5. With a great deal of care and a fair chunk of good fortune, I'd imagine. Very impressive, though.
