Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. I am writing a novel where one of the main characters was recently in the infantry.

I used to be in the TA long ago, so know that every bit of army equipment has one or more nicknames. For example we used to call the GPMG the gympy and I assume it is the same today. Can anybody tell me what the lads call the following:

    .50 calibre machine gun
    L115 and L129 sniper rifles

    Thanks for your help.
  2. This will end in tears.
  3. "Gun?"

  4. Pain in the Harris to carry!
  5. I called one of our LSW cnut when I couldnt get the SUSAT on ....
  6. We call the GPMG "The General"

    the rest are self explanatory.
  7. I can assure you it won't be long before you get called a cunt.

EDIT: WHOOPS! Sorry. Didn't mean to swear in Current Affairs.
  8. We used to call the 50 cal 'Our Little Spunktrumpet'. Make sure you put that in your book. It's spelt S.P.U.N.K.T.R.U.M.P.E.T
  9. "....and pick up your dozy welshman!" (Sgt. with muscles, Zulu.)
  10. Gun (s) or shooty bang sticks
  11. oldbaldy
