Isn't it the job of a recruiting Sgt (or whoever) to steer people in the direction appropriate for their abilities/potential and physique?

Obviously, filling slots in their own capbadge needs comes into it, but don't they take into account that a recruit is perhaps a tad too short for wearing a red jacket and busby, smarter than the average bear, or more of a squeeze into the confines of a tank than is desirable?

I’m not sure that you will be able to ‘specialise’ as an armoured engineer, in that all Sappers are (were?) combat engineers first. So expect your postings to alternate between armoured and field units, for example.

At 6’ 6” you’d have been very popular on the Top Panel party for bridge building though...

Surely you are joining as RE Combat Specialist?

The ability to join as an Armoured Engineer was removed / changed earlier this year.

Well gusse my recruiter wasnt told that, as they said I'd be joining as a combat specialist yes, but she also said my trade training will be as Armoured engineer when the next trade training slot comes up when I've passed phase 1
