  1. Hi, im looking to join the royal engineers as either an armoured engineer or a Driver, im coming to the stage now where im going to have to pick one and start gaining more knowledge about the choice.

I am at the moment stuck between the two, I want a driving career, and i want to get as many Licenses as possible, Id like to get Class 1 and Hazmat and if thats possible which job will get me there, or both? Im lookin to get as much out of the army as what i put in so which one of these jobs will give me the better opportunities.

Thanks for reading my questions, i look forward to hearing from you guys.

  2. Drivers do 14 weeks trade training at lechonsfield. Training includes Hazmat, C, C+E, FAMS, Advanced FAMS, DROPS and basic radio ops.. further training includes operating cranes etc etc.

Armoured go to Bovington and do the tracked vehicle licence, basic tank crewman and operations of Titan/ Trojan.

Armoured is more appealing to most as Drivers are seen as an almost 'last ditch' trade entry...

HOWEVER! Aprt from the DROPS systems and crane/bridging operating C3 Sigs do the same 'civi' licences as drivers and FAMS too. Just food for thoughty.

  5. Based on the qualifications i would probably choose Specialist Driver then, not 100% yet though because somethings just tempting me to go armoured hehe, duno what it is.

  6. but, initial training is not the be-all-end-all... quite alot go on to do C etc anyway regardless of trade.
