Argentine warship confronts Falklands Trawler

The Argentines will be rubbing their hands with glee and waiting for Osborne to decimate the forces in a few weeks time. Why risk their navy confronting our ships when our government will do their work for them?

So true, so very true, so very, very true.

Cameron and Osborne, aided and abetted by some admirals, are about to ensure that The Falkland Islands become Las Malvinas.

Giving money to the European Soviet Union and abiding by every diktat issued by the unelected, unaccountable, unsackable rubbish consisting the European Soviet Union is all the current 'coalition gang of third rate twerps' are capable of doing!

This country was well and truly f*cked by the Blair / Brown 'Terror' and now it is poised elegantly to be gang-raped by the Cameron / Clegg gang of clueless nancy boys.

Aww, poor old Kirchner! Blanking all of the history of the Falkland Islands so she can call us colonial oppressors!? Soooo, Argentina invading the islands by force, against the will of the inhabitants wasn't colonial aggression then? It was Argentina that militarised the South Atlantic by sending an invading army into a place that didn't belong to them.

Just curious, but does 'Kirchner' sound even remotely native Argentinian, or would that be a family name derived from the European colonial aggressors that still control South America, after they invaded it and massacred the indigenous peoples? Buenos Aires, Santa Rosa, Mercedes, Rosario, Rio Grande . . . . . as place-names go, well, the sound pretty ****ing Latin to me, and I'm sure the indigenous people of South America are not Spanish, Latin or anything else related to the 'Conquistadores'.

Perhaps Ms Kirchner could tweet us a correction, or maybe she and her forebears would consider ****ing off back to the European mainland and leave South America to the people she and her ancestors stole it from.

Edited to add: France (which apparently we have no claim to anymore) is a mere 26 miles away from the UK mainland. It's so close that people swim there on a semi-regular basis, and yet neither the British no the French are in the business of saying that either part belongs to the other, DESPITE a long history of it changing hands and wars being fought over said ownership . . . . .

The Falkland Islands are over 400 miles away from Argentina, or 15 times the distance from Britain to France. Perhaps the Argentinians would like to lay claim to the North Pole too? It's about as valid.

Rumours that the "Argentinian" vessel was being crewed by the First Sea Lord, Commander in Chief Fleet and David Davis MP are entirely unfounded.

Regarding Ch 16, Sharkey Ward and his minions apparently used to get on it and shout abuse at Argentinian pilots as they sped towards them.

Well said , Biped .
Its the same scenario as in 1982 .Govt unpopular ( even though this one is allegedly democratic , though no more democratic that Blairs was ) so stir up the Malvinas issue to divert attention .That said , its wearing thin , most Argentines no longer give a sh1t as they know that any oil wealth that accrued would be stolen by the politicians , so would give them no benefit at all.

Anyway , they may want to start to consider who their real friends are. China is busy buying up millions of hectares of farm land and big tracts of the Andes for the mineral wealth . 20 -30 years from now a Chinese fleet will appear over the horizon , to "protect the interests of chinese businesses threatened by political unrest " or some such excuse and invade the place , roughly at the same time as they take Southern Africa over as well. Anyway , must go , I am late for my Mandarin class.Yours , Ho Ping Verclo

I've got to say that for your average Argentine on the street, oil isn't the issue when it comes to Las Malvinas. Right or wrong, they're taught the country's view of the situation from a very young age. Maps are subtly redrawn to move the islands closer to the mainland, much is made of the UN's 'recognition' of the dispute, and all-in-all the islanders are portrayed as a rogue district who, no matter what they might say, are part of the Republic.

The occasional mouthing off by the country's leadership to hide ongoing problems (currently covering for claims that Kirchner is being manipulated by her husband), is well recognised within the country as a diversion tactic. But as far as the population are concerned, it's going to take a hell of a lot of re-education before they'll change their mind and accept self-determination for the Islanders.

Points to note.
1. We all know and love the Sun for its unbiased, indepth, well-researched journalism.
2. Argentina upping ante again - a thread from 2 years ago????? Yet the marvelous article mentions the 'capture' and internment of a vessel 4 years ago and this time just a bit of R/T chatter. Hardly upping the ante, is it?
3. Clearly this is proof of the need for each fishing vessel to have its own RN escort and/or a re-run of the Cod Wars - one of the RN finest moments.
