ARE WE GOING TO BE SCREWED AGAIN

Does anyone know if the rumer about unit PRI's is true. That the army is closing them down and letting civi firms sell kit on camps where obviously the price is going to be dearer (who gets the profits not the unit). My mate at colchester reckons the big one there is closing down and some civi is runnig a shop on a new camp

Well mate if that happens out here in Germany I reckon That NAAFI will take it over. What they will then do is sack everyone,up all the prices and lower the standards of customer care( if they know what that means)
they will then go on to monopolise on everything else until it becomes know as The NAAFI Army :x :x :x :x

The answer is simple, organise a boycott of these establishments. No profit means no point and if units organise their own unofficial PRI then we can fight back against this further erosion of our few perks.

Boycott it, it's the thin end of the wedge. Get amongst the boys and spread the word.

This sucks, the title President of the Regimental Institute can mean nothing if they are fulfilling the role as secondary to their prime function, earning for their parent corporation.

This flies in the face of over a hundred years of charitable and welfare work on behalf of the armed forces, and deprives each and every unit of a measure of independence.

"The PRI funds the majority of recreational activities within the Regiment including providing top quality sports equipment for all, subsidising adventurous training, gym equipment and entertainment"

What chance top quality sports equipment now?

Before getting all precious, consider WHY Sodexho do not want PRI selling alongside them. PRI - no insurance to pay, no overheads etc.

Sodexho have taken on the contract and some of the profit from catering, leisure and bar sales go back to the unit 'gainshare.' So instead of the PRI profits alone funding adv trg, you can now reap benefit from shop, bar and cookhouse under PAYD. Furthermore, PRI still raises subs and still funds stuff. It loses out on, profit from sales of waterproof notebook refills, but makes some on sales on wine gums and pringles!

As for red tabs getting jobs with Sodexho - they are a huge, multinational catering and retail firm. They are BETTER AT feeding loads of people than we are and do not rely on DMR to balance the books. The reality is, soldiers from time immemorial have moaned about 'paying for food we don't eat'. Under PAYD, that has ended, but you now have to pay market rates for food you do eat. I am sure Sodexho do not need passed over full Colonels to improve their busniess, any more than the Army Board needs a world leading catering director to help us fight wars.

If the contractor and CO have reached an agreement over gainshare, you will get more cash in the unit according to how much is taken over Sodexho counter. So, if PAYD works, Sodexho make more profit (good for them) and unit gets more gainshare (good for you). Not all change is bad.
