Applying for medals of deceased

Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. I have looked on here, as I thought it would have cropped up at some point! But I can't find bugger all, so started a new post if that's OK!
I'm assisting my mum to applying for my Grandads medals from WW11. He never wanted to collect them after his brother was killed (we have his medals as they were sent to my grandad).

I've downloaded the Medal application form from the MOD AND the certificate of Kinship for my mum to fill in.

But how much information do they need? Obviously my mum doesn't know his service number, she has D.O.B. etc, and I think she knows his final rank (Maj) and regt (RA), also a couple of possible postings, e.g. Training in Edinburgh and possibly India (might have been after the war).

As we have his brothers medals, which have his rank etc on, would it be worth passing this information on to the MOD to assist them in locating my grandads details?

I am aware that you can end up waiting 2 or 3 years for them to come through!

Cheers for any help in advance.

  3. Can I apply for Audie Murphy's? I could flog them for a fortune on ebay.
