AOL sync problem

For some reason my AOL has stopped syncing to my PC (WIN 10) and the default mail app on my Iphone and Ipad.
I can access my account via browser but it wont work via any App.
I have tried all the usual-deleting and re-adding the account, have reset my password etc but to no avail.

On the windows mail app, when trying to sync it just says Your AOL settings are out of date. When I go to settings to re-input my password, it initially shows ************** as if my password has been entered twice. When I re-enter the password and save-it still does not sync and when I return to the settings-it either has the password bit as blank or too many characters.

This started happening last week on the same day, across my IOS devices and PC.

Any ideas?

One thing to try, open a privacy tab on your browser (ie porn mode), as that will open a tab without cookies etc

Worth a go trying to login and sync that way, at least it will rule out caching issues

Current iterations of Window 10 just don't play nicely with some email clients*

It's a right PITA.

*Because they want you to use Outlook. Allegedly

Its same on my IOS devices also though.
HAve just clicked on 'fix account' on Windows mail again-re-put password and clicked save.
Pop-up few seconds later "Your AOL settings are out of date".

Why not ask a bunch of randoms on the internet?

Then when they've told you to reformat your disk, buy a new graphics card and sell all your Apple devices, you could oh, I dunno, contact AOL?

Have just contacted AOL via their supoprt email but-not expecting any form of reply this milleneum chose to also ask on here-in case anyone else had encountered similar.
Surprisingly-they replied within minutes and the problem is now sorted.
AOL security settings no longer supports certain 3rd party applications so-by following the link provided, logged into my AOL and selected 'generate 3rd party app password' and then selected which ones from a dropdown.
The new passwords are Iphone / Ipad and Outlook specific and consist of 3 sets of random 4 letter combinations with a space in between.

Your helpful comment is duly noted though- and will be filed away for future reference-next time you ask for any form of advice anywhere on here.

I've been getting that a lot recently on my Windows settings. Come out of screensaver, "your settings are out of date. Click here." Click . "Enter your PIN."

Luckily after a catastrophic Windows failure a year or two back, after a factory reset and a handful of years of applied updates (but luckily next to no significant data loss because I keep my data on an HDD separate from the system SSD) I had had to create a PIN.

Insert PIN. "Your settings are up to date." Riiiight.

Come to think of it, it hasn't happened for a few weeks now.

You're welcome.

Hmmmm, in my technical opinion it sounds like the fücking fücker’s fücking fücked.

Have you tried unfücking it?

Hope this helps.

Not AOL. but I have had problems with Windows 10 for a long time. A simple reboot did nothing whereas selecting a previous restore point before the problems occurred has helped to some degree. However, I now unplug and take the battery out without closing down and then do a complete reset restore. Granted you may have to reload some of your programs but it has worked now for over 3 months without further problems.
I suspect your problem is Microsoft automatic update, which you can't stop.

God, is AOL still a thing?

I could have filled a skip with all those unwanted promotional CDs sellotaped to computer mags in the 90s.

You can, as it happens. WUMT and Sledgehammer are freebies. There are others.

Windows Update (W.U.) frequently buggers things up. You can reset all the W.U. components, have a google for WUReset.bat. I think the author is Vishal Gupta. I've used it and it works.

The WUReset.bat only deals with problems associated with updating or installing a new update, it doesn't stop updates from being loaded or the attempt of an auto-download.
Microsoft has closed all access to adjusting or refusal of Updates, they want you to buy their products and to control you and your puter. recently they have made it so you have to have a Microsoft email in order to do anything with Windows.

They have "hidden" the option to create a local account instead of having to login via a microsoft one. It is still possible though.
Im logged in with a local account on this, and have no (known) issues with updates etc. I cant remember how I did it though.
