Anybody able to offer info

What is it? A coin? A button?

Where did they find it? Have they any ideas what it might be?

A little pin broach, the wording on the front saying Sherwood Foresters Notts & Derbys, and on the back it says The Sherwood Foresters 2nd Vol

Its about the size of a £2 coin, any history on the unit Please?
There's this amazing thing on t'internet, called 'Google'. You might like to try it.

I would hazard a guess that it is what is known as a 'sweetheart badge', ie what a soldier gave his sweetheart before going off to war. Badges/items such as this to volunteer battalions of infantry regiments are very collectable, compared to regular battalions. Search in eBay for examples.

But I could be wrong.
