Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. Was watching it today.. Excellent Show.

Just wondering regarding the training? Where in the British Isle's would they have trained for such an expedition? Scotland maybe?

What type of training would they have carried out? Presumably ML type training.

They mentioned they trained for 3 years ..They're Unit CO's were very obliging!
  2. Oh let us remember the days of Mallory and Irvine when English gentlemen set out to climb Everest wearing tweed jackets with pipes in their pockets . No mobile phones , radio , GPS just grit , pluck and ginger beer .
  3. Didn't the original climbers train in Wales and Scaffel area?

As Al Murray says... 'the mountains are not large in themselves... but big enough to learn how to conquer everybody elses....'
  4. If my memory serves me correctly the team which " Conquered Everest " in 1953 certainly trained in Wales . Mallory and Irvine seem to have done a lot of their climbing in the Alps .
