RHNS Adrias entering Alexandria harbour, 6 December 1943. Adrias struck a mine on 22 October 1943 in the Adriatic Sea, losing her bow and 21 men killed. HMS Hurworth came to her assistance, also struck a mine and sank with the loss of 143 men. Adrias rescued the survivors from Hurworth, carried out running repairs in Turkey and then limped to Alexandria, a distance of 730 miles. The voyage took six days and was considered an outstanding feat of seamanship.
