Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. Heroin User Diagnosed With Anthrax Infection

A heroin user has been diagnosed with an anthrax infection in Oxford, the Health Protection Agency has confirmed.

The latest case comes after two people who also injected drugs died from confirmed anthrax infections in Blackpool within a month of teach other in August and September.

There is an ongoing outbreak of anthrax among people who use intravenous drugs in a number of countries across Europe - with 12 cases now identified since early June, the HPA said.

The Oxford case brings the total affected in the UK to five - three in England, one in Scotland and one in Wales.

Experts said contaminated heroin was the most likely cause of the outbreak.

Dr Fortune Ncube, an expert in infections among people who inject drugs at the HPA, said: "Anthrax can be cured with antibiotics, if treatment is started early.

"It is therefore important for medical professionals to be alert to the possibility of anthrax infection in heroin users presenting with signs and symptoms - which include severe soft tissue infections or blood poisoning - to prevent any delays in providing treatment.

Thats one way off promoting the badness of Drugs :)
  2. Assuming no other people are put at risk - result!
  3. It's been happening for some years and its I seem to recall due to what it's cut with.
Used to get it with agricultural workers and blood/bone meal. It's still I believe a notifiable disease.
Also occasional botulism deaths with drug users.
  4. I had my anthrax jabs... I think i would rather be on heroin.
  5. They're all someone's son or daughter mate.

  6. Yep, not only do they get to die they also may get a mention in the national papers too.
  7. Plus they cost loads of cash before thwy die.
  8. I've even met coppers that find it a shame when drug users die of an overdose - As one said to me "It would be nice to see them off drugs and living a productive life".

I tend to refer to overdoses as an "Occupational hazard" of being a user.
  9. but this druggie is on the fast track now heading out of society and planet earth as we know it!
  10. Police officers often praise them when they've stopped using and are doing well. It really gives them a massive boost.
  11. The govt has encouraged people out of drug services, we will get more crime and more deaths.
I also drink and smoke a lot but I don't have to break the law to do it.
Opiates are less harmful than alcohol and tobacco though.
  12. I doubt it. If I used heroin as much as I smoked I'd have probably popped off years ago. And don't even compare it with my copious jugs of ale!
  13. I didn't say heroin I said opiates.
  14. Heroin (diacetylmorphine or morphine diacetate (INN)), also known as diamorphine (BAN), is an opiate analgesic
  15. Yes I know.
