TWO men have today denied their forces charity conned the public out of thousands of pounds.

Company director William Knight and colleague Patrick Jennet have appeared at Preston Crown Court following a year-long investigation by Trading Standards officers into money raised by Wounded Warriors Project UK.

Both Knight, 50, of Midgeland Road, Marton and Jarrett, 47, of Teal Court, Blackpool, pleaded not guilty to allegations they were involved in misleading trading using false motives which conned the public into making financial donations between December 2009 and June 2010.

The men are accused of sending teams dressed in services’ uniforms on the streets of the UK selling raffle tickets giving the public chance to win up market cars.

The pair are said to have sold the raffle tickets promising the public with the stated aim of raising £10,000 for the Wounded Warrior project and donated to wounded serviceman and women.

Both men also denied a second allegation of transferring criminal property and money acquired through the sale of raffle tickets, between those same dates.

The not guilty pleas were entered at a Preston Crown Court hearing yesterday.

A trial has been set down for February 20 next year, with an estimate of possibly four to six weeks.

Both men were remanded on bail by Judge Beverley Lunt.

A pre-trial review is due to take place on August 1st when a third man is also due to appear.

I think Sgt Slingsby is going to be doing some pruning of his Facebook contacts.

Is this the one? There are a few PARA links that need to be followed there, it seems.

Barstewards ... allegedly, of course, until proven guilty.
