Andrew Walker - Royal Scots mass murderer dies

Death of the killer of three fellow soldiers in 1985 is reported:

There was something seriously wrong with that bloke. He never had the tiniest chance of getting away with the ill-conveived robbery, let alone taking out three of his comrades in the process.

I watched a UK forensics program last night, double execution of two men in aRange Rover watching the suspect being interviewed, not a shred of emotion, nothing, just the standard no comment. I would imagine like this person he has no regard for human life.

He is another poster boy for what is wrong with the justice system, if they couldn’t hang him they could have at least left him to rot in prison till the end. His life was pure luxury compared to the 3 he deprived of theirs, human garbage he was, nothing more.

How do you simply go and sign out a sub machine gun and live ammo from the armoury?

Considering ammo is obviously kept in a separate bunker from the armoury, you don't.

I'm with pilgrim, either pocketed from a previous range day or - even riskier - the guard room, though RP says he was DS so unlikely.

Would we hold live ammo in the guardroom in 85

I joined in 87 and the first armed guard I remember would be about 88 when we carried a blank mag and a full one in our webbing.

It's slightly bemusing in that he ended up receiving the same level of care for his last ~12 years as your granny may have passing away in a local authority care home.

'State care homes - for poor grannies and multiple murderers!'

Long time since I was told the story but I thought he was the armed escort for the money.

As someone once said get to 60 and murder someone and spend the rest of your life being looked after.
No need to worry about your heating bills feeding yourself from a pension let the state pay for it all

our guard commander got drunk one night and took an SMG, he was the ammo storeman so we were working on the assumption that he had lots of ammo. We did not have wet blankets though

From the link, the sentencing judge commented that it was a 'carefully planned crime'.

Carefully planned, apart from guaranteeing he was bang to rights, that is.

I get the complete lack of empathy, but surely even a psychopathic personality has an innate sense of self-preservation and can realise what he/she can or cannot possibly get away with.
