...and the next job after the Army is.....???

recently seen on ARRSE ...advert for an overseas job in a shithole - Libya.

Salary will be between 25 and 30k dependent upon experience and qualifications. This is a fantastically rewarding job, so apply for it now!

Fantastically rewarding for the agency that is! My first contract offshore in 1990 was at £10.00 per hour. The agency was pulling in £17.00 per hour whilst I worked 12 to 15 hours per day - 7 days a week . Nice earner for some but then I was ignorant.

Never mind a poxy 25k - This is what you should be asking for:
500 US dollars per day
Choice of airline+ meet & greet
4 to 5 star hotel + meals
Insurance to 1mill.
35 US Per Diem
3 month rota
Armed escort where needed!
A peek at sister Susies black cat's ass.

pm if you need offshore advice - no charge to ex army.

Example B.
Working in Bavaria as a 'track basher' with the US Army as a civvie.
Agency 1. £16.00 / hour + B&B + Flights.
Agency 2. £6.50 / hour .............. Get lost!!!!

My friends............ listen & learn! It's a shit world out there.
1990 - £95 - £120/day - Irish Sea
1995 - £125/day - North Sea
1997 -£270/day - North Atlantic
2003 - £180/day - Nigeria
2004 - £160/day - Bavaria
2007 - $500/day - Nigeria

Lesson One ........It all depends on contract / Where? / What?/ When?

In between times ????? FECK ALL!!!

Heh. Back when I was doing contract work I gets a frantic call from the agency one morning.

"We have sent you documents in error. DO NOT OPEN THE ENVELOPE. Return it to us immediately recorded delivery".

"Too late mate" was my cheery reply. Then I hung up. Then I opened the envelope.

They'd meant to send me my contract to sign and return. In fact they'd sent me the docs due to go upstream. They were copping for 120% of what they were paying me.

Unless, with your contacts and knowlege, you setup an agency? Pay the chaps a decent cut, take care of their welfare and choose which colour BMW you would like.

It's disturbing how many oblivious people take crap contracts thinking that they are getting a good deal. If you have experience, you are worth a hell of a lot more than the first offer.

That seems quite low for Nigeria at the moment, no offence meant. Have you thought about joining a service company and rotating?
True. Helping an old friend out so not too bothered so close to retirement

Shagnasty,

What are you doing for 500 US a day in Nigeria? On the drilling side?
nothing so sophisticated - just training production techs
You need to get your US turned into being paid in Pounds the way the exchange rate is and try OPS in Aberdeen. That deal could be alot better ie the Rota sucks to start but if your happy.

I prefere to be Staff ( Halliburton) myself rather than a day rate-er these days.
